5 YEARS OF IMPACT
Enhancing BARD’s Stakeholder Engagement:
BARD has also prioritized strengthening its outreach, engagement and public visibility to ensure its value
and impact reach to stakeholders at all levels in both countries and beyond. In 2017, BARD undertook a
comprehensive external review to evaluate its research impact over 40 years of operation. Overseen by
a binational committee, the report highlighted impressive achievements and recommendations going
forward. The findings were presented in a special high-level binational (virtual) event attended by senior
American and Israeli officials, key stakeholders and members of the scientific community. Additional high-
profile events showcasing BARD’s progress and future perspectives included a reception at the Israeli
Embassy in Washington DC and a reception in Tel Aviv. Multiple other meetings have been held to inform,
consult and forge collaboration with government, Ag-sector, industry and academic leaders.
The past five years have paved our way forward and will allow us to advance our work and expand
our portfolio, partnerships and collaborations while responding to the constant rise in the cost of
conducting research and the devaluation of the dollar. As we focus on the agriculture and food
and nutrition pillars, we bear in mind the urgent need to support climate-smart agriculture and
support smart farming and AI-based solutions for present and future challenges. The effects of
global warming are exposing many areas in Israel and the U.S. to unfavorable conditions that will
challenge R&D to develop food production solutions. The activities and measures detailed above
come together to ensure that BARD has the means and partnerships needed to enhance its
potential and increase its capacity to contribute to both nations as we face the challenges ahead.
