Message from
the Executive Director
Dear friends and colleagues,
Five years ago, our comprehensive 40-Year Research Impact
Assessment that showcased BARD’s outstanding achievements
between 1977 and 2017 was published. Since then, existing challenges
have intensified and new ones have emerged. The impact of climate
change amid the increasing global population endangers agriculture
and food production, calling for the acceleration of the scientific and
technological race to expedite creative solutions and technological
developments.
With these in mind, BARD has sharpened its focus and refined research
priorities, funding tracks and operations to ensure it continues to
identify the most promising applicable research and maintain its
competitive edge in order to address the challenges and demands of
the changing global reality.
Over the past five years, BARD has continued to grow its mission,
operations, reach, programs and impact. While the COVID-19
pandemic has been a challenging period for us all, BARD not only
succeeded in maintaining all activities but even increased productivity
and value in many ways - from revamping infrastructures to improved
outreach, award reporting, engagement, and most importantly, new
funding tracks and partnerships.
BARD is committed to supporting US-Israel collaboration as both
nations grapple with these obstacles, and to contribute to the food
and nutritional security of both countries and beyond. BARD will
continue supporting the American and Israeli Agricultural R&D
community by further growing and strengthening our excellent
collaborative framework for feeding the future generations, and we
hope to continue expanding our tracks to adequately support this
critical research.
I am proud to share with you a snapshot of our accomplishments over
this period, as we look forward to another successful and productive
five years.
My best wishes for many more fruitful years,
Prof. Yoram Kapulnik,
BARD's Executive Director
